Two held for armed robbery in Humansdorp
TWO men have been arrested for an armed robbery in Humansdorp at the weekend.
The men allegedly robbed the driver of a truck delivering alcohol to a shebeen in KwaNomzamo township on Saturday. They took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene on foot
The pair were later arrested by a police officer who was patrolling the area.
“The men detained are aged about 36 and are being held at Humansdorp police station. A 9mm Norinco pistol and ammunition were found in their possession, but the money was not recovered,” she said.
The detainees will appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate‘s Court on charges of armed robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition today.
Jeffreys Bay cop dies on way to accident scene
A POLICEMAN from Jeffreys Bay died in a car accident on Saturday while on the way to a road accident investigation.
Police spokesman Captain Annamarie Botes said the accident happened just outside the surfing town when the police vehicle touched a tow truck it was overtaking and the driver lost control.
Constable Abraham Pieterse, 28, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene. The policeman who was driving the car sustained minor injuries. Pieterse, who lived with his parents in Humansdorp, was the father of a three-year-old boy, Aidan.
Botes said the officers were travelling on the R102 at about 7.30pm to an accident scene when the vehicle rolled. Pieterse was flung from the car.
