Jeffreys Bay gang leader shot
Police shot a gang leader who stabbed a policeman while resisting arrest in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape, the community police forum said on Monday.
Police chased the man and his gang after a robbery at a house in Ocean View on Friday at 9pm, said spokesman Brenton Williams.
The group ran across Aston Bay Road towards Pellsrus and police circled the area.
William said the gang leader was cornered at an informal settlement but when a policeman tried to arrest him, he stabbed him in the upper arm.
"He then attacked a policewoman who evaded the attack and in defending her life, she shot the suspect in the back. The suspect was then placed under arrest and taken to Livingstone Hospital," he said.
The man would face charges of attempted murder and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
